CBSL Governor Dr Nandalal Weerasinghe to be replaced?

Speaking exclusively to News Cutter, an aide close to the Prime Minister revealed that if Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe is to take up the portfolio as Minister of Finance, the Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka (CBSL) Dr Nandalal Weerasinghe will also be replaced.

Update: Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in as Minister of Finance by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa on Wednesday (25)

According to him, a likely candidate to replace Dr Nandalal would be the former CBSL Governor Dr Indrajith Coomaraswamy who previously served under the Good Governance Government.

Dr Indrajit Coomaraswamy assumed duties in  July 2016 as the fourteenth Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka.

He served the Central Bank for fifteen years, working in the Departments of Economic Research, Statistics and Bank Supervision.

Dr Coomaraswamy completed his university education with a BA (Hons.) Degree from the University of Cambridge and went on to obtain his PhD in Economics from the University of Sussex. He joined the Central Bank of Ceylon in 1974 as a staff officer.
