Following his nomination as the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) candidate for the upcoming Presidential elections by former President Maithripala Sirisena, Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe unveiled plans for a comprehensive program aimed at revitalizing the nation.
The announcement came during the SLFP May Day rally at the Gampaha Municipal Council grounds, led by former President Sirisena, amidst an internal power struggle that has divided the party into two factions.
Addressing supporters, Rajapakshe expressed confidence in the SLFP’s ability to form a government, emphasizing their readiness to lead the country. Reflecting on his collaboration with former President Sirisena, he highlighted their achievements in curtailing the powers of the Executive Presidency within a short period.
Former President Sirisena echoed Rajapakshe’s sentiments, underlining the party’s commitment to combating corruption and addressing the nation’s crises. He emphasized the need for a corruption-free government to tackle the challenges faced by the country, drawing parallels between the national crisis and issues within households.
Asserting that the people have already made their decision regarding the nation’s leadership, Sirisena outlined the SLFP’s poverty alleviation program and understanding of the hardships experienced by citizens.
The rally served as a platform for the SLFP to reaffirm its stance on governance and policy priorities ahead of the upcoming Presidential elections.
