Can the ‘Pay Here hack’ become Sri Lanka’s largest data breach?

The creators’ of ‘Helakuru‘, Bhasha Lanka‘s financial technology arm PayHere was hacked in April (01) and the service was taken offline for 36 hours before being restored. During the PayHere attack, the company claimed that no card information was exposed.

According to Have I Been Pwnd, the Pay Here breach has disclosed over 1.5 million payment records, or more precisely 1,580,249. IP and physical addresses, names, phone numbers, transaction histories, and credit card information amounting to 65GB of data.

PayHere released a full explanation about the hack a month after it happened. However, concerns about the service’s security and what it represents for consumers linger.
