STEAM education system to be introduced in Sri Lanka tomorrow

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (News Cutter) – The STEAM education method will be implemented in Sri Lanka starting tomorrow, March 31.

For the first time in Sri Lanka, the Ministry of Education, the National Science Foundation, Science and Technology Centers, the University System, and Training Institutes will work together to execute this STEAM education programme.

The new method, with the motto “Let’s see—let’s work—step into the future,” according to Minister of Education Susil Premajayantha, will prepare local students to compete in the international job market.

The STEAM education model has caught the attention of educators as a very effective teaching strategy. It is currently being used in 96 countries around the globe, with the United States serving as its leader in this regard.

The National Science Foundation of the United States of America first introduced the STEAM education method to schools in 1999.

It has been updated, and today it is referred to as STEAM education throughout the world.

Susil Premajayantha, the education minister, stated that he expects to successfully implement the STEAM education plan in schools by timely supplying students with tangible resources like textbooks.

The Minister went on to say that STEAM will teach students how to apply their basic knowledge from general education classes to real-world situations both inside and outside of the classroom.

The new initiative is anticipated to benefit the national economy as well, as the STEAM education system in some nations adds up to 65 percent of GDP.
