COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (News Cutter) —The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has delivered 8,360 tonnes of urea fertilizer to Sri Lanka’s Ministry of Agriculture for distribution during the Maha cropping season.
The aid, funded by the Japanese government, will benefit over 228,000 smallholder paddy farmers in dry and intermediate zones of the country.
The assistance targets farmers cultivating lands up to one hectare in various districts. The aid will be provided free of charge to farmers up to 0.5 hectares of land and 50 kg of urea at no cost to those up to 1 hectare.
The Japanese Ambassador, Mizuki Hideaki, expressed Japan’s commitment to supporting Sri Lanka’s agricultural sector and emphasized the organization’s commitment to sustainable agriculture.
