The All-Ceylon Medical Officers’ Association (ACMOA) claims that over four million people are severely affected by the medical shortage created due to the prevailing economic crisis.
According to the ACMOA, close to three million people receiving treatment for non-communicable diseases (NCDs), one million people suffering from preventable blindness, ten thousand patients are on pending lists to undergo bypass surgery, and ten thousand cancer patients are currently seriously affected due to the prevailing shortage of pharmaceutical drugs and medical equipment in the country.
Speaking to media yesterday, December 1, Dr Jayantha Bandara, Secretary of the ACMOA said that there are about three million people who consume medicine daily for NCDs such as diabetes, high blood pressure, cholesterol, and heart diseases.
