COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (News Cutter) — Minister of Agriculture, Mahinda Amaraweera, has requested an immediate report from the Agriculture Ministry Secretary regarding the alleged use of internationally banned pesticides.
The Centre for Environmental Justice has revealed that around 40 types of highly hazardous pesticides are currently being used in Sri Lanka.
The Registrar of Pesticides has confirmed that no approval has been granted for the use of internationally-banned pesticides in Sri Lanka.
If the Centre for Environmental Justice submits the report, an investigation can be initiated.
The Office of the Registrar of Pesticides has the power to take action against individuals involved in the sale, distribution, or use of banned pesticides.
