100 Drugs Failed Quality Test

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (News Cutter) — In 2023, 100 drugs failed quality tests, with 52 manufactured in India, 40 locally produced, and others from countries like China, Pakistan, Japan, and Bangladesh.

Some drugs have been withdrawn, withheld, or discontinued.

The highest number of batches of Flucloxacillin Cap was 35 in May, the highest since 2017.

The Health Ministry reported nearly 600 quality failure cases since 2017, with 96 reported in 2019, and 86 in 2022.

Quality issues in drugs have led to several complications and deaths in 2023.
