President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Wang Yi, The Foreign Minister to the People’s Republic of China will declare open the Promenade portion of the Colombo Port City on Sunday (9). The Chinese delegation arrived in Sri Lanka on Saturday (8) Night.
Speaking to News Cutter an official from Colombo Port City said, “the decision to open the 500m stretch was made after relentless inquires made by the public to experience the developments taking place within Port City”. Furthermore, he said that visitors will be able to access the new Port City Marina from Monday (10) onwards and that they are expected to travel by foot since personal vehicles are not permitted to enter. The entrance will be in front of the Presidential secretariat and it will be accessible from 9 am to 6 pm for a limited period of time.
The Colombo Port City Marina Promenade opening is part of a broader celebration organized by the Ministry of Youth and Sports and the Chinese embassy in Colombo to mark the 70th Anniversary of the historic Rubber – Rice pact between Sri Lanka and the People’s Republic of China. Sri Lanka was one of the first countries to recognize the People’s Republic of China.
