Buddhist Clergy Arrested in Connection with Firearm Theft at Sri Lanka Army Camp

COLOMBO, Sri Lanka (News Cutter) – The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested a Buddhist clergy member in connection with a recent firearm theft at the Panagoda Sri Lanka Army Camp.

The cleric is identified as a resident of a temple in Homagama. He was taken into custody after being linked to the theft of a T-56 assault rifle belonging to a guard post at the camp.

Police reportedly tracked down the main suspect by carefully observing CCTV footage.

According to news reports, the firearm has not yet been found but the magazine containing 30 bullets was recovered in a nearby drainage.

It is unclear how the Buddhist clergy aided in the theft. The motive behind the theft remains unknown at this time.
