The Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) has taken a significant step forward in its preparations for the upcoming presidential election by delegating the responsibility of selecting and announcing the party’s candidate to its leader and former President, Mahinda Rajapaksa. This pivotal decision emerged from discussions held during the SLPP’s politburo meeting, convened on the afternoon of the 9th of April. Rohitha Abeygunawardena, a prominent SLPP Parliamentarian, confirmed this development, shedding light on the party’s deliberations and decisions.

The politburo, chaired by Mahinda Rajapaksa himself and featuring the esteemed presence of party co-founder Basil Rajapaksa, convened in Colombo to address crucial matters pertaining to the party’s electoral strategy and future direction.
