The suspect wanted for the murder of the father of cricketer Dhananjaya de Silva has been arrested four years after the incident.

Malindu Lakmal, also known as “Kotiya,” a resident of Ratmalana, was wanted over Ranjan de Silva’s murder.

On May 24, 2018, a Dehiwala-Mount Lavinia Municipal Council member named Ranjan de Silva was shot dead.

The Mt. Lavinia Police Division’s Crimes Investigation Unit allegedly arrested “Kotiya” as a result of a tip-off, as reported by the police.

Investigations have shown that the suspect, who was staying close to the Angulana Sayuru Pura apartment complex, was intimately engaged in the Councillor’s murder.

Furthermore, it has come to light that the suspect is a close relative of organised crime and drug trafficker Sinhara Amal Saminda Silva, called “Kudu Anju,” as well as a close friend of mobster Ellawala Liyanage Dharmasiri, alias “Patiya.”
