Kottu roti–a popular street food and the unofficial national dish of Sri Lanka has had a bump in price caused by the rise in the price of wheat flour due to an ongoing shortage.
According to the All-Ceylon Canteen Owners’ Association (ACCOA), the price of a Kottu roti has increased by Rs.100.
Speaking to the media, the Chairman of the ACCOA said that the price of Kottu and other short-eat items has significantly increased due to the shortage of wheat flour.
Furthermore, he requested the government to lower the retail price of wheat flour and decrease the cooking gas price.
The chopped flatbread mixture mashed with either chicken, fish or eggs along with vegetables and spices is a popular dish among daily office goers, labourers, tourists and food enthusiasts.
