Due to the prevailing economic crisis in Sri Lanka, the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) of the Philippines has ordered the immediate repatriation of Filipinos in Sri Lanka who want to return home.
The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) is preparing for the immediate repatriation of Filipinos in Sri Lanka, which is experiencing economic crisis.
In a post on Twitter on Sunday, Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. issued the order to attend to Filipinos who would seek repatriation amid the ongoing financial crisis in the foreign country.
“Get them home. We have the money,” Locsin said.
Accordingly, Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Sarah Lou Arriola noted through the Philippine Embassy in Dhaka and the Philippine Consulate in Colombo, that they are continuously monitoring the current economic crisis in Sri Lanka.
“We are also closely coordinating with Filipino community leaders on the situation on the ground,” Arriola said.

Arriola added OFWs in Sri Lanka, may reach the DFA by sending a message to their Facebook page, OFW Help.
Meanwhile, Overseas Workers’ Welfare Administration (OWWA) Chief Hans Leo Cacdac stressed during his interview on Teleradyo, they are now listing down the names of the Filipinos to be included in the repatriation flight.
Cacdac said money will be sent to assist the Filipinos in Sri Lanka with their basic needs.
Australia, Canada, and Saudi Arabia had recently issued travel advisories asking their citizens to reconsider travel to Sri Lanka due to the economic crisis.
