First poppy for Remembrance Day pinned on President

President Ranil Wickremesinghe received the first poppy flower at the commemoration of Poppy Day, which took place this afternoon, October 6, at the Parliament buildings.

Every year, Poppy Day is put on by the Sri Lanka Ex-Association Servicemen to raise money and honour the memory of those who died fighting in the World Wars.

The money will be used to help injured soldiers and the families of fallen heroes.

The occasion was attended by the General Secretary of the Sri Lanka Ex-Association, Servicemen’s Lt. Col. Ajith Siyambalapitiya, the Treasurer, Major P.K.C. Shantilal Kankanamge, members of the Poppy Commemoration Committee, Capt. T.M.H. Madugalla, A. Padmasiri, Chulin Sirimevan, and other officials.
