SSP Shani Abeysekara, the former Director of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has filed a petition with the Court of Appeal seeking a writ-order nullifying the recommendations presented against him by the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) on incidents of political victimization.

According to Shani, the PCol on political victimization has no jurisdiction to investigate complaints made by Nishshanka Senadhipathi, the Chairman of the controversial private maritime security agency Avant-Garde, since a lawsuit pertaining to the said complaint is being heard before a trial-at-bar of the Colombo Magistrate’s Court and the Colombo High Court.
