The Federation of University Teachers’ Associations (FUTA) says Police must arrest the group that assaulted the former Vice-Chancellor (VC) of the University of Peradeniya (UOP) Prof. Athula Senaratne and his family.
A group of nearly 300 students attacked the former Vice Chancellor and his family on Saturday, December 10, and forced their way inside their home.
Former VC of UOP Prof. Athula Senaratne and his son who were injured in the incident are receiving treatment at the Peradeniya Hospital.
FUTA says the incident has been captured on the CCTV camera at the VC’s official residence and urged the Police to arrest the group involved in the attack by identifying them.
According to news reports, 10 of the students involved in the attack have been identified by the Police.
Furthermore, an investigation has been launched into the incident by the UOP administration. Deputy Vice Chancellor of the university Prof. Terrence Madhujith said that the academic activities of the students who are arrested over the assault incident will be temporarily suspended.
