Sri Lanka is located on the boundary of two tectonic plates, and tremors and earthquakes are not uncommon in the region. However, most of these events are minor and do not result in significant damage or harm.
It is important to remain calm and take necessary precautions to ensure one’s safety during a tremor or earthquake. According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), people should avoid panicking and seek shelter under sturdy furniture or in an open area away from buildings, trees, and power lines. The USGS also advises people to stay away from windows and objects that could fall, such as hanging plants or ceiling fixtures.
